  There is a long list of process monitoring and control tools available to the papermaker.  Basis weight, moisture, ash and caliper MD & CD controls, freeness control system, web inspection systems, retention and charge control systems, just to name some of these. However, it is apparent that each one of these measurements is just one piece of the jigsaw puzzle and there is a real need to find a system that balances the furnish quality and machine settings and alerts when something is wrong in the process.  It has been shown in many cases that porosity of the sheet is actually able to monitor the whole process and many quality aspects are related to that.. ACA Permi is a fast online analyzer measuring porosity real time. It operates continuously with wide measuring range and provides perfect correlation to whatever lab standard. ACA Permi is a technology that does not replace the other tools, but is an essential early warning system for the papermaker!

  The end product of a paper mill is the customer roll. Even if paper is sheeted, it must first form a good roll. The correlation of the roll quality with online CD profile measurements is often very poor and the evaluation of roll quality must be made by hand and visually. However, ACA RoQ hardness analyzer is a new tool to define roll quality. It is easy, fast and accurate CD profile measurement. The hardness profile provided by RoQ and its key values based on statistical confidence are the best indicator of a roll quality and is again an early warning system for the paper maker. RoQ can identify problematic rolls before they cause any issues at further processes such as printing and converting.
